The parish of St Mary Magdalene Quatford is about two miles from the centre of Bridgnorth on the Kidderminster road.  The church was consecrated in 1086 (on a promise of love) and has some original masonry still within the fabric of the building.  It was the original church of the community of Bridgnorth.  It has recently had a new kitchen and toilet facilities added which means the church can be used for social and fundraising events - such as the 80th birthday celebration for a member of the congregation, with a very social afternoon tea.

We are also celebrating the Queen Platinum Jubilee year 2022, which started with a quiz and supper, and will be followed, in July, with a Jubilee Concert and refreshments. Then, in October 2022, we will plant three trees to replace ones that have been lost over the past years.

The church sits on a small hill which is reached by a set of 40 steps, or for those who are less-able, there is an external lift, installed in 2005 (from road level to church level) to provide improved accessibility. Sheep are regularly brought in from a local farm to keep the grass around the church under control. The ‘Caring for Gods Acre’ group also pay a twice yearly visit to help maintain the churchyard. Currently a young person from the village is trying to achieve their Duke of Edinburgh award, and has volunteered to help maintain the Churchyard on a one day week for a year.

The churchyard is open for burials.

During Covid we took part in the A Rocha UK Eco-Church survey and gained a Silver Award. We continue to actively develop our Eco status and are exploring the option of the installing solar panels, to help produce electricity, and are also looking at fitting heated pew-pads, to reduce the use of electricity whilst keeping the congregation warm during the colder months.

Services:

Holy Communion services take place on every 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month, at 10.30am (Book of Common Prayer on the second Sunday).

After our services we enjoy sharing and chatting over a cup of tea or coffee.

Quatford and Oldbury Choir

Quatford Church has had a choir for more years than some of our members care to remember! Since the development of the Bridgnorth team of churches, over two decades ago, the choir has included members of Oldbury parish, and serves both parishes at Festival times.

The choir does not attend in official capacity at the services week by week, but is available for singing at weddings or funerals if required and can be booked through the Parish Office - and they rehearse throughout the year on Friday evenings. For further details telephone Carol Wall 01746 764365, or email tomwall@freeuk.com
