Welcome to St Nicholas' Church, Oldbury Road, Oldbury, Bridgnorth, WV16 5EH

The parish of St Nicholas Oldbury is almost a suburb of Bridgnorth, being approximately one mile from the town.  The church also serves the village of Eardington, some three miles from Oldbury and the community of Oldbury Wells in Bridgnorth.

Oldbury has almost 900 years of history – with a church on the same site since the early part of the Twelfth century. Originally it was a daughter church to St. Gregory, Morville and then independent after the dissolution of Shrewsbury Abbey. Oldbury joined with Bridgnorth in 1948.The current building was largely completed as it is today by 1863.

The church building is maintained in good repair, and there is a large well kept churchyard, which is still being used for burials. We have our own car park adjacent to the church, as well as accessible toilet and refreshment facilities.

The church contains Oldbury's WWI Memorial Window (dedicated to St Martin and St Alban) and the Plaque listing the names of those from the village who died serving their country between 1914 and 1919. (See the separate page WWI Memorial and Plaque for more information.)

Services of Holy Communion are held on the First and Third Sundays of the month at 10.30am. On months with a 5th Sunday, a lay led service will generally be organised. Coffee or tea is usually available after every service for people to meet and greet and have a chat.

St Nicholas’ Church is a beautiful place to have your wedding. For more details click on the link below.

Quatford Church has had a choir for more years than some of our members care to remember. As the choir has included members of Oldbury parish for some time, it kindly serves both parishes at Festival times, also supporting weddings and funerals upon request.  Click here for more details.

Apart from the church another focal point in the village is the Village Hall in Old Mill Lane where community social events are held regularly, which we help to publish..

Events are also held at Eardington and Astbury Village Hall, which is on School Lane in Eardington.
